HOPE Springs Eternal!

2010-05-24

After the widely acclaimed success of the past two year’s events, the Marlow churches have joined together for a third time to organise Hope in the Park, an open air day of faith and fun events for the whole community which is taking place on Sunday 20 June 10.30am—3.30pm in Higginson Park, Marlow. Hope in the Park is about Christians sharing their hope and unity in Jesus in a variety of creative and exciting ways.

For children there’s an activity tent with face painting and crafts. Katy Kartwheel of Circus Passion will be there with her trapeze and trampoline to teach  children circus skills.

This year there’s a new youth zone in which Square Group will be demonstrating their Logic recording software and young people are invited to bring along their own instruments and join in-house musicians for live recording sessions. Square are also donating 2 Apple iPods to the winners of our World Cup football cage competition. Other attractions for youth will include a bungee run, a superslide and a wrecking ball.

The Hope double decker bus which was launched at this event 2 years ago will be there for anyone wanting to chill out in style and comfort. It’s kitted out with plasma screens, computer games and plush seating.

In a prayer zone there’ll be the opportunity both to pray and be prayed for. If you want you can light a candle as you pray or write a prayer on a balloon for launch at the end of the day. In fact, those who text a confidential prayer request to 07796 223568 can already have it forwarded by email to a dedicated team in place to pray for them.

There will be craft stalls from places as far afield as Mexico and Uganda and an information area will also be running during the day.

From 11am a hog roast, burgers and sausages will be served from the BBQ, and drinks and ice creams will be available throughout the day.

At 11.30 am there will be a worship service which is open to everyone. This will be on the stage which this year will be located under a giant dome. Representatives of various local churches will be involved, with the River worship band led by Andy Read. Our guest speaker is Steve Clifford the  General Director of the Evangelical Alliance

Following the worship service, the activities will continue from 12.45pm around the park and there will be a programme of entertainment taking place on the stage. This year’s entertainment includes:-

The illusionist Steve Price who will kick things off with his own unique brand of magic and mayhem. The Marlow Schools Choirs will be performing with composer Sheila Wilson from 1.15-3.15pm. Four Marlow schools will be taking part this year— Bisham, Burford, Holy Trinity, and Sandygate. Between the schools’ performances we will be entertained by Steve Price and by local poet and performer, Coral Rumble.
Finally at around 3.15pm members of the cast of ‘Joan of Arc a musical’ will be showcasing 3 songs from the brand new production by local writer Bob Davies, with music composed and directed by Mark Britton.

There’s no England football match on 20th June! So we extend a warm welcome to everyone to join us in Higginson Park and experience something of Jesus’ unchanging message of hope.
